HAPPY NEW YEAR!!EVERYONEWELCOME Welcome to my blog! If you've had me before, you're familiar with the layout and how it works if not, I'll be reviewing it in class on our first day back. Please be sure to bookmark it and check it daily, just to be sure you're up to date on everything. The blog will be posted Sunday for the upcoming week. I name each weekly post with the upcoming Friday's date. CLASS NOTEBOOKS Once rosters have settled, I'll be creating the Class Notebooks where you can go to find all the assignments and due dates for the upcoming week. I'll post the link to your Class Notebook on the right column of this blog. We'll go over the log-in info in class. SYLLABUS The link to each class' syllabus will be posted on the right column under your level. We'll review it in class, but I will not be printing them up. CONTRACT Almost every job you'll have will have a contract to cover the basic rules and requirements there are for that employer. We'll do the same with my courses. There will be a signature page that will need to be signed by you and your parents and returned by Friday. COMMUNICATION This is key for all industries and companies. It is very important that you have a professional, not just clean, e-mail address. Many people will make a decision, right or wrong, based on your e-mail address. I'm not saying you have to get rid of your current one altogether, but establish and use a professional one for school, work and college. That will help you. Your first assignment is to send me an e-mail from your professional e-mail address. The address that I will be using to grade the assignment from is: [email protected] The title can be simply Hello!. In the body, please state your first & last name along with the name that you would like to go by in class. Also state the class and period you have me. Here's an example To: [email protected] From: (your PROFESSIONAL e-mail address) Subject: Hello Hi Mr. Phelps! My name is William Phelps, but I like to by "Coach". I have you in AVTF-(1,2,3, or Broadcast) in ___ Period. I hope to have a great year! Sincerely, Coach That's all that's needed for an easy 100. This is due by Friday, 1/11/19. Please don't give up on the easy 100's. HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISIONPOSSIBLE FIELD TRIP: Early to mid-semester, I will be looking to arrange a fieldtrip to UGA for Broadcast students only to watch a production of their show. Details to be forthcoming. We've been making some great strides in telling better stories and putting together better packages. We will continue to raise the bar on our quality and hopefully increase our audience in the process. Our crew rosters have been changing since before last semester ended. We will still be live streaming 8 minute shows on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. I'll be working with the Producers and Directors for Blue, Green and HSPN crews to determine how to best do this. There are a few basics that will be in place regardless: 1. HARRISON TODAY will broadcast on Mondays. It's focus will be to present the news in and around Harrison High School. News = events (concert, game, art show, class presentation, etc.), newsworthy announcements (new teachers, policies, etc.). 2. HSPN will broadcast on Tuesdays. Your focus will be covering ALL THINGS HARRISON SPORTS. Schedule, game/match results, stories of the team (players, coaches, etc.). Every sport in season will be covered every week. 3. HOYAVISION will broadcast on Fridays. Your focus will be CELEBRATING THE HARRISON COMMUNITY. That's pretty broad with plenty of leeway. 4. MUST INCLUDE a Fine Arts and Academic segment each week. Teachers and Department Heads are great resources to get the heads-up on this information. It can be in EITHER HARRISON TODAY or HoyaVision. 5. Crew Members must present a pitch for stories every other week. HoyaVision crews will present their pitches on the week of the show. HSPN will split the crew in half for this assignment with each half presenting every other week. Pitches will be made by a Producer (talent) and Director (Techie) - no more. 6. Interviews: Each talent and techie for all crews will be required to record an interview for an approved story EVERY WEEK - with footage stored in project folders on the external drive IN SCHOOL. For those crew members who have already completed AVTF-1 & AVTF-2, we'll be looking to prepare you to pass the End Of Pathway Assessment (EOPA). Provided you meet the GPA requirements and grades in my classes, this could qualify you for a cord at graduation. AVTF-2 PER 2In this course, we'll be using higher level gear and getting more into the editing software - Audition (audio), After Effects (special effects) to improve our video projects. Our final projects will be a 5-7 minute mini-documentary, so start thinking of those topics that really interest you, have at least 2 people you can interview for the project, and MOST IMPORTANT: you're able to film b-roll this semester for the project - plenty of it! AVTF-1 PER 3This semester we'll be learning about the basics of video making and broadcasting. Everything from basic filming techniques to how to edit and export your videos using Adobe Premiere. The goal will be to help you create videos that look and sound good. AVTF-3 PER 4This semester we'll continue to firm up our video production knowledge and use LIVE projects as our way to fine tune our skills. Our customers will consist of Harrison departments and Administration, the Cobb County School District, non-profits, etc. One of the projects you will be doing will be an "outside" 2-4 minute video for a company or non-profit of your choice. So start looking around at your contacts as well as your parents. To help with this, we'll have a guest speaker next Monday, 1/14/19, who does corporate videos.
Your assignment is to do some research on Ms. Davis and come prepared with at least two good questions about what she does or what you want to do for your "outside" project. Here's her company's website:
www.provideotalent.com/ Our goal will be to prepare and pass the NOCTI End of Pathway Assessment (EOPA). Provided you meet the GPA requirements and grades in my classes, this could qualify you for a cord at graduation.
