EVERYONE
Hello and welcome to the last week of April! Just a few weeks left to go. I hope this finds you, your family and friends well. Please continue to be smart about what you're doing. As things start to open up, it's not over yet. I know it's hard, but we can get through this.
GRADING: I'm almost through everyone's Class Notebook, and will start grading the final projects that are submitted this weekend. While many of you have indicated that you are satisfied with what you have, since you can only go up from March 13th's grade, if you would like to bump it up a bit, please feel free to complete anything from March 13th forward. Lot's of easy A's to be had.
FINAL PROJECTS: These are weighted at 35% and can give you the most bang for your efforts. Since you can't go below March 13th's grade, it may be a good way to bump you up considerably. Everyone has the Portfolio Website, AVTF-1 has a Music Video, and AVTF-2 has the Mini-Documentary. It may help pass the time, and boost your grade as well!
If you are submitting something for a final project, please complete the form here so I know to look for it
FINAL EXAMS: This is weighted at 15% and will be administered online via FORMS. I'm thinking of either a 25 question test or a 50 question test of basic simple things. This may be another easy way to boost your grade, especially since it can't take you below the March 13th grade. I plan on posting the exams up for everyone by when the seniors are done and give a couple of days to complete it. I'll have more details in the coming week or two.
excellent online training opportunities
Last week I stumbled across a very easy to understand tutorial on Instagram from Valentina Vee. She's an Adobe Master Trainer, Director of Photography (DP) in LA, and also works with Aputure, a lighting company. With Adobe Care, she is presenting a weekly Tuesday Tips session at 2pm EST on YouTube. Last week's session was how to edit quicker in Premiere Pro. While I knew some of the shortcuts, there were a bunch more that will definitely help going forward.
This week's tutorial will be "Vlogging Made Easy with co-host Shameless Maya" On Thursday, she also had a behind the scenes training on how light a product shoot. Awesome in-depth look at how and why they do what they do for commercials and other shoots. REAL-TIME, INTERACTIVE SESSIONS
I'm also working on providing some live ZOOM sessions for everyone in my program. First up:
BROADCAST: AVTF-1 is starting this unit and since we don't have access to our studio and control room, I'm working with NEWSY 's Chicago studios to give us a live look at their control room and studio and some background about what happens behind the scenes. Based on their schedules, it will be held at 4pm and we're locking down a day, probably Thursday, to have this. I'll send out an e-mail and REMIND for anyone interested. FILM: I'm working with the Georgia Film Academy to host a ZOOM session about their program and what they have to offer. Last week, I sent a link to a form to get some options on when would be best for everyone interested. Thank you for your responses and I'll be following up with the date and time once confirmed. If you have any tutorials or live sessions that pertain to film, broadcast, editing, or photography, please share! HOYAVISION-HSPN
I've posted all the stories that were turned in. Thank you! We have had some people looking for more current stories, so if you are interested, please let me know and we'll look to get it published.
I've scheduled our ZOOM sessions for the remaining Mondays - EXCEPT FOR NEXT MONDAY - I'll be at school helping with the Senior Cap, Gown, & Yearbook distribution. I'll look to get videos and some interviews there as well, if anyone wants to do an article/segment about it. Just let me know and we'll coordinate it. AVTF-2
Our ZOOM session is scheduled for Tuesday morning. We'll be catching up and going over how the final projects and final exams will work for us. Please check your e-mail and Remind for the invitation.
As we work through the video projects, it would be really cool if you were able to check out the Adobe Care YouTube live sessions on Tuesdays. AVTF-1
Our ZOOM session is scheduled for Wednesday morning. I'll spend some of that to go over the Broadcast Unit. I'd like to have the BROADCAST POSITIONS & TERMS vocab on Thursday. Here's the link to the study guide:
STUDIO POSITIONS & TERMS No worries on the grade as it cannot reduce your grade below the March 13th grade. It will help you to be somewhat familiar with the crew and terms. I'm working with NEWSY Chicago studio to hold a "live" tour of their control room and get some live descriptions of what happens and can answer your questions. It will take place at 4PM and I'll let you know what day. AVTF-3
Our ZOOM session is scheduled for Thursday morning for all those interested. I'd really like to make sure you're doing OK and answer any questions about what's going to happen for the last few weeks. I'll still continue share info about EOPA Prep to keep you up to date. Please let me know if you have any questions.

everyoneLetting you know I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I truly miss seeing you all. Online lessons only are definitely not the same. Where possible, I highly encourage you to find the opportunities to document what's happening. Also, find the cool and creative things that people are doing to keep the spirits up. Please share your stories, photos and videos. HUGE THANK YOU To all those who sent in the THANK YOU video to our doctors and nurses. Ms. Davis and ProVideo Talent are getting the final approvals from the Atlanta Medical Association on the finished video and then it will be distributed to the media and on websites. I'll share the updates as soon as I get them. I saw the preliminary cut and it looked really good! SENIORS: Just a couple of items for you 1. Harrison administration would still like to honor you with a video for graduation. We would like to make a video of you sharing what made your time at Harrison special, favorite memories, and what you'll miss most. I need some help with ideas on how to best get these and piecing them together. Please text/e-mail me if you have some thoughts or would like to help. 2. EOPA candidates: If you are a senior, and have completed (or will complete) AVTF-1, AVTF-2 and HoyaVision or AVTF-3, and meet the additional GPA requirements, we will qualify you as being a distinguished CTAE graduate. Cord distribution is still being worked out. HOYAVISION - HSPN HOYAVISION-HSPN ZOOM CALL: Monday, 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Check your e-mail and Remind for the invite. Green Crew posted some segments in a show format last week - Thank you! Kudos to Lauryn, Bella, and Katie for helping to keep our Hoyas informed. HSPN, I'd be really interested in any material (article, audio file, or video) regarding our Hoya Sports teams/players, or even feedback on the NFL draft this weekend and what's happening around that event. Blue Crew, you're up this week. Any stories you can provide would be greatly appreciated. AVTF-2Our AVTF-2 ZOOM CALL : Tuesday, 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM Check your e-mail and Remind for the invite. The :30 - :90 second Video 1 project is due this Friday. I'm interested to see which of the widly random suggestions, or one of your own you picked. Keep it simple and have fun with it! AVTF-1The AVTF-1 ZOOM CALL is scheduled for Wednesday from 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Please check your e-mail and Remind for the invite. This week we'll be starting our Broadcast Unit - one of my favorite units of all. I've posted an Adobe Spark presentation with a link in the Class Notebook to introduce the unit. If we can get through what's online now by Wednesday, I'd like to talk about it on our call and then add some more content to keep things moving. Please let me know if you're able to access it and if you have any questions. AVTF-3Well, it's official, we will not be offering the EOPA's before May. So, here's what will happen:
SENIORS: You will be given credit for passing the EOPA and will have completed that requirement for the Distinguished Pathway Completer. Provided you meet the pathway GPA requirements (4.0) and the overall GPA requirements, we will look to recognize you at graduation (however and whenever that may be). SOPHMORES & JUNIORS: You will have an opportunity to take the EOPA in the Fall. Dates are not known at this time. We can use online and Hoya Block to refresh your memory and get you up to speed. I will still continue to incorporate the refreshers in the video projects if you want to have some fun and play around with making videos. WELCOME BACK!!I hope you were able to enjoy the break with family and friends (at an acceptable social distance) over the break. everyoneI will continue to post info and assignments on Class Notebook on a weekly basis. I will try not to give a lot so as to allow us to wrap things up by Thursday each week. While I will assign a Thursday due date, I'll allow the assignments to be turned in by Friday. May I suggest you give some of these projects a shot to give you something fun to do and to continue to hone your skills. It can only help your grade. EXTRA-CREDIT OPPORTUNITY Please consider creating a short video of thanks to the medical staff on the front lines of this covid-19 crisis. Check your Class Notebook for details. HOYAVISION - HSPNWe're still producing stories and I've heard from some families that they look forward to seeing the articles and segments. Please continue to share. Green Crew and HSPN will be submitting stories this week. Blue Crew, please start pitching your ideas and preparing your segments for next week. Everyone, please look to include video footage from Facetime, Zoom, etc. in your video pieces. Articles should be written in paragraph form rather than interview transcripts. Again, thank you for your telling the stories. You are recording history and something that you will take with you for the rest of your life. Let's go tell some stories. AVTF-2Thanks to those who submitted their PSA's the Friday before the break. I'll be looking at them this week. Moving forward, I want to "play", have some fun with videos and honing our skills. I've posted a 3 video assignment to take us the rest of the way. Looking for simple storyboards and :30 second to 1:30 videos using whatever you have to film and edit. Speaking of editing, I was reminded that DaVinci Resolve offers a free video editing software online. Check it out. AVTF-1Prior to the break, we were putting together our pre-production for a corona virus PSA. This week, I'd like to film and edit the PSA. It's going to be an interesting final 6 weeks for us. I typically start our Broadcast Unit around now. It's one of my favorite units and gives the students an awesome hands-on opportunity to learn and work on some professional gear. We'll still be covering the unit, but in a much different way. I'll be looking to give you some virtual looks at the industry and meet some of the pro's in front of and behind the camera. I hope you can join us. avtf-3Some of you had checked in asking about our EOPA's for certification. As of this past Friday, there has been no determination about EOPA's. That said, I'm still looking to prepare us as best we can. The past two weeks we focused on the pre-production portion of the material. This week we'll be focusing on the production portion - specifically lenses and filters.
Aside from prepping for our EOPA, let's have some fun with making videos! I've posted an assignment to cover 3 videos to take us the rest of the way. Let's go challenge ourselves to make some great videos! |
