FIRST FULL WEEK IN THE BOOKS!
It's hard to believe we're heading into February already and we JUST completed our first full week at school. THANK YOU! Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or even ideas for our program. E-mail me at: [email protected] . HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISION
NEWSY! "VISIT"
Huge shoutout to Newsy's Senior Editor and Academic Partnership Liaison, Nathan Byrne for taking time out of his very busy schedule to hold a Google Meet session with the broadcast class. Mr. Byrne spoke about Newsy's mission, workflow, how they differ from other news organizations, what they look for in a new employee. He also fielded several questions from the class. In addition the Google Meet session, Mr. Byrne and other reporters will be consulting with some of our students to help develop their journalistic skills. Thank you Newsy and Mr. Byrne!
SEGMENT OUTLINE: Thanks to Ms. Kuhn, Wheeler HS's AVTF teacher, for sharing her simple, straightforward, segment outline. She's developed this from her years in broadcast and it works! Check it out in your Homework section and use it for your next segment.
AVTF-1 PER 2 & 3
We've spent the past couple of weeks working on our shot compositions and framing. That's something that we'll be working on, well, forever. It's that important to tell the story for your viewers.
Last week we worked on the process of filming: pre-roll, ACTION, CUT, post-roll. That will be very helpful to you as you start to create projects.
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO
This week we will begin to familiarize ourselves with one of the most popular professional video editing suite on the market today. We'll take a look at the 4 main parts of the desktop or layout and start to build a project. There will be a Premiere Pro Vocab quiz on Friday. Here's the link to the Quizlet Studyguide. PREMIERE PRO CC BASICS VOCAB The video below will provide a good introduction. AVTF-3
We should have our rough cut videos uploaded to YouTube by end of class on Monday. I can take care of that for you during class.
We'll look to get the feedback and any needed changes by Tuesday so we can make them and deliver the final copy by Friday. We'll also begin to prepare for the End Of Pathway Assessment (EOPA). We'll start by completing the EOPA STUDENT GUIDE - SELF ASSESSMENT in the Homework section of your Class Notebook.

First Snow of 2018!EVERYONELast week I wrote about how nice it was to ease into the semester. This is taking it to a whole new level! I hope you were able to enjoy the break and were able to get caught up. Since we only had one day last week, most of the blog will be repeated - sorry. REMINDER: EVERYONE NEEDS TO HAVE A CLASS 10 SD CARD THIS WEEKI checked with the Hole In The Wall, and they have a ton of the 16GB, Class 10 cards at a great price! When you get yours, PLEASE LABEL IT!!!! and keep it with you. HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISIONBlue Crew will begin their broadcasts this week with Harrison Today on Monday and HoyaVision on Friday. HSPN will start their season on Tuesday. Please keep the shows: simple and high quality. We will be watching and breaking down the episodes the following non-broadcast day. (Tuesday - Wednesday). I will also be re-instituting the post show survey for our audience to share their impression of the episodes. Please keep in mind that we will NOT please everyone. That's OK. So long as we give OUR BEST, and take both the good with the critical comments and learn from both, we'll get better and better. It's another short week. Please be efficient with your time - learn something everyday, do a pitch on FlipGrid: FLIPGRID WEEKLY PITCH ASSIGNMENT Reply with a responsible question to someone else's pitch. Do your weekly Journal Do the work & earn the A! AVTF-1 PER 2 & 3This week we'll be learning about digital video cameras, how they work and tripods. In groups we'll be practicing our framing again, but this time with video instead of still photos. There will be a vocab quiz on Friday. Here's the link to the Quizlet studyguide: CAMERAS AND TRIPODS VOCAB We'll also be learning the process of getting the video clips from your camera to the project folder on the external hard drives. This is VERY important, so whatever you need to do to remember the process, please be sure to use it. Lastly we'll be reviewing the importance and opportunities of career organizations, including our own SkillsUSA . AVTF-3 PER 4NOW we're under a time crunch. This is where we'll need to have all hands on deck, getting footage, editing what you have, writing scripts for VO and getting someone dynamic to record them (not me).
I've read and commented on the proposals, they'll need to be tightened up and sent out on Monday. I'll need to see them before they go out. Please plan accordingly and work efficiently. First draft is still due by Friday. Tough loss yesterday. Believe me I feel Falcons fans' pain. They're still our team and we'll still back them. Give ourselves a day to lament and then let's get on with "Rising Up"! EVERYONEThis easing in to full weeks of school is kind of nice, except for the fact that we're hitting the ground running and need to be on our game to get everything done. That said, now is the time to develop good time management habits in class. Each week, we have several things that need to be done, and there is time offered in each class to get them all done. I've been going through the Class Notebook and several are missing assignments. While grades are not able to be posted to Synergy until the 18th, I'm still recording them. That said, please be sure to get your work done ASAP. If you're having issues, it is up to YOU to come to me to help get it fixed. Silence is NOT an excuse. Do the work and EARN the A! During the week we'll continue getting our b-roll and interviews - shooting for a first draft of the video by Friday. It will be a rough draft - be sure to let the customer know. It should give them an idea of what the final video will look like. We'll get their comments by next Tuesday and hope to have it completed by 1/26/18. Please do whatever you need to do to hit these deadlines.
Be sure to complete your Journal by Friday as well. |
