everyoneHello and welcome to week 3 of distance learning! Boy, I really miss seeing everyone. I hope you and your families are well. We're still working through the schedules, medical equipment, and everything else that goes with recuperating older parents, so I REALLY appreciate your well wishes and patience. That means a lot to me and my family. ZOOM SESSIONS: So I posted the survey in last week's blog and a wide majority said "NO" to weekly classes and everyone else said "Either Way". So what I've decided to do is to schedule non-mandatory sessions for each class as a way for everyone to see each other, share their experiences if they want, ask questions, etc. It's not mandatory, and you can join/leave as you want. I'm sending e-mails with the link to join to each class. I'm looking at the following schedule: Monday: HoyaVision-HSPN - 11AM - 12PM Tuesday: AVTF-2 - 11AM - 12PM Wednesday: AVTF-1 - 11AM - 12PM Thursday: AVTF-3 - 11AM - 12PM I've set up a "Waiting Room" and will admit you from there. I'm taking it one week at a time for the moment to see how it works for you and my parents' schedule. Will keep you posted - please check your e-mail and Remind for any updates. Hope to see you, even for a little bit, during these sessions. EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS: This week we're moving on to PHONE INTERVIEWS. Those looking for a job, this will probably be how your first interview will be held. It will be a make or break opportunity for you, so the the better you're prepared, the better your chances to move on to the next step. hoyavision - hspnThe segments and stories are coming in! The stories have been great and I'm very happy that you are trying to capture video of the interviews! The articles have been pretty good as well. If you do choose to write articles, please submit them in article (paragraphs) format rather than just transcripts of the interview. I've posted a brief outline to help organize your story on the Class Notebook. This week Blue Crew will produce their stories. Please be sure to complete the rundown of the segments your crew is producing. Please submit your stories to your class Google Drive folder: HOYAVISION-HSPN ASSIGNMENTS AVTF-2This week we'll focus on recording and editing your PSA then posting to the class Google Drive: AVTF2 ASSIGNMENTS . AVTF-1I've been watching your Megamind Foley projects and am very impressed! I'd like to share a few on Wednesday's ZOOM session, if that's OK. I hope you had fun creating them. Our next project will be to produce a Public Service Announcement (PSA) This week we'll look at the parts of a PSA and start working on our Pre-Production, a storyboard, script, and treatment. I'll be spacing out the parts throughout the week. If possible, try to pace the segments out accordingly. These items can be submitted in your Class Notebook. If you have any questions, please be sure to ask. AVTF-3This week we'll focus on producing the PSA we completed the pre-production for. Please be sure to submit your video into the Google Drive folder:
AVTF-3 ASSIGNMENTS In addition, we'll look at the other few elements of Pre-Production for the EOPA preparation. This week's topics will include LOCATION SCOUTING and LIGHT PLOTS.

everyoneI hope this finds everyone well. It's been a week. Lots of changes and curveballs to the planned workflow.. Thanks to everyone who responded to the e-mails and Remind texts. It will be very important to stay in contact throughout this process. If you haven't done so, please do. I'm grading it as a participation grade to be added when we get back - both Remind and E-mail. My status hasn't changed much - still spending most of the days with my dad as my mom continues to recuperate in the hospital. The internet is spotty and slow from his house, so I am very understanding of your situation. All I ask is that you try your best and communicate with me regarding any issues, questions, etc. JOURNALS: I've added a self-check on our Final Projects to our Journals. Please just be honest with your reply. As I try to provide the information and feedback that you need, I'm interested in your feedback on holding a Zoom Session for your class. Please take a moment to answer the quick survey below. ADOBE LICENSING FOR STUDENTS AT HOME!!Thanks to Mr. Reyes and the County, Adobe has agreed to provide all Cobb County students who were included in the license for the school, the ability to download and use any of their Production Premium products at home, free of charge, through March 31st.
EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS: EMAIL CC: & BCC: USE This week's Employability assignment is part 2 in the Communication-E-mail series. It focuses on what CC and BCC mean and how they're used. The assignment will result in 2 e-mails to my [email protected] account: one from the sender and one from the BCC. hoyavision - hspnThanks to Blue Crew who submitted a segment, audio segment, or article. I'll be posting those hopefully by this evening. Green Crew and HSPN you're up this week. Segments or articles are due to the Google Drive assignment folder HOYAVISION-HSPN ASSIGNMENTS by Friday, 3/27/20. I've posted the segment requirements in the Class Notebook along with a written article guideline as well. I would like to offer 5 pts, Quiz Grade weight, extra credit, for including FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangout footage in your package. For written articles, you can earn by hyperlinking the longer interview in your article. I have also assigned an assignment to review other school postings from their shows/papers. Please take a look/listen at a story or two and answer the questions and let me know what you think. avtf-2After looking at the requirements for the PSA project you're working on and I've added a Treatment to the pre-production to address some of the standards. I've added instructions on what's included in a TREATMENT in the Class Notebook. I've also added a script, either screenplay or 2-column to the Pre-production. This will address the pre-production requirements of our standards. To accommodate the addition of the Treatment & Script I've pushed back the due date of the Pre-Production to this Friday and the video to next Friday. AVTF-1This week we'll learn what's involved with all the sounds we hear in movies....FOLEY SOUNDS. Your project will be to identify all the sounds of a :60 second animated clip - without audio, and re-create them and sync them with the video. I've placed the instructions and clips in the Class Notebook. I'm aware you don't have the shotgun mics the pro's use, but you can use your phone to record the sound effects and then sync them to the video. I have placed instructions in the Class Notebook. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know as soon as possible. AVTF-3As part of our EOPA Prep, we'll be looking at portions of the Pre-Production section of the test preparation. That said, I've added a TREATMENT and SCRIPT to the Pre-Production for the PSA. I've added a description and instructions to the Class Notebook. I've also taken into consideration the additional elements and have extended the due date for the Pre-Production to this Friday, 3/27/20 and the video itself to next Friday. Please let me know if you should have any questions.
UPDATE FROM COBB & DOUGLAS COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH
Hey team, I received an e-mail from Nurse Keeley with information from the Cobb & Douglas County Public Health:

Thank you all for your patience over the past couple of days. I have been sidetracked with my mother's surgery and helping to care for my father while she's in the hospital. I appreciate your flexibility. Please check your Class Notebooks for assignment updates and re-schedules.
I recorded a brief tutorial on how to use Adobe Rush on your smartphone to edit and turn in your video assignments. Please check it out - click the image below:
EVERYONE
While we are learning to deal with this new reality, knowing that it's for the best for everyone, we are all learning how to continue learning remotely. It's even more challenging when we don't have all the gear we would like to learn and practice the skills we are learning.
That said, I'm going to ask that we use what we DO have and make the best of the situation and tell excellent stories. I'm in the process of adjusting some of the assignments to be used with smart phones. They should all be up in the class notebooks by noon on Monday, March 16th. To make sure this works for everyone, it will be very important that we communicate with each other. If you have any questions, don't understand what's being presented, or are unable to complete the assignments, it will be your responsibility to let me know. If I don't hear that you are having issues, it is assumed that you can turn the assignments in on time. PLEASE keep me posted. EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS: We will be focusing on professional e-mails this week. hoyavision - hspn
Our course and standards is one of telling the stories of the Harrison community. While we may not compile the stories into a structured show every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we can still tell the stories and celebrate our Harrison community. We will continue creating segments, but they can be in the form of a video segment which will be uploaded to our YouTube channel, HOYAVISION TV; audio segment in the style of a podcast or radio news segment, or in the form of an article. The audio segment and article will be shared on our online news site: HOYA HEADLINE NEWS.
Blue Crew will share their stories by Friday, 3/20/20. Green Crew & HSPN will share their stories by Friday, 3/27/20 avtf-2
We'll be working on our video shooting and editing on our smartphones. To do that, you can use Adobe Rush app or iMovie. If you use Adobe Rush, be sure to use our Cobb County license ([email protected]) log in. We will start with a PSA about the state of affairs with the Coronavirus.
This week will consist of developing the concept and storyboarding the message. Next week will consist of filming and editing it. We will also have our Adobe After Effects quiz on Friday. Here's the link to the Quizlet study guide: AFTER EFFECTS BASICS VOCAB avtf-1
This week we look at continuing with our learning about audio with a Foley project. We'll be using our phones as microphones and Adobe Spark online or Adobe Rush or iMovie to edit the final project. It will be set up in our Class Notebook by noon tomorrow.
We will be having our Audio vocab quiz on Friday. Here's the link to the Quizlet studyguide: AUDIO VOCAB avtf-3
We will continue to work on our EOPA preparation. I'll be posting new questions to work on as well as some resources you can use to help research the topics. We'll also be working on a short video to test the smartphone film/edit workflow.
Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we work through this period. If you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at: [email protected] |
