Welcome back everyone! It's hard to believe that it's just the first week of August and we're in school already. The good news is, at least it's air-conditioned! Let's get started:
Those of you who are new to me, my weekly blog entries will be organized by level, starting with any news relating to everyone, then working up from AVTF-1, 2, 3, HoyaVision / HARRISON TODAY. So let's get started. ALL: Required materials: All levels have the same needs given we are all working with digital cameras, so here is what is needed by everyone: REQUIRED MATERIALS
Broadcast Materials: Students are asked to contribute (4) AA batteries, (4) 9 volt batteries or (5)DVD-R discs. The money saved on these consumables will be used to offset the cost of the Media Badges which are needed when filming outside the classroom. If the student provides any of these, they will be given 5 extra-credit points on a class work assignment. CONTRACTS: This is a Career Tech program and I will be running it more like a business than a standard "sit-down" all lecture type of class. Just as those who work need to sign a contract stating they understand the rules, we do as well. These are to be signed by both the Parent and Student, so everyone understands the rules and expectations. These are due by Thursday 08/06/15. Here is a link to the Contract should you need to print an extra copy. AVTF CONTRACT ADMINISTRATIVE SET UP: All written assignments and notifications will be done electronically. To accomplish that AND to start preparing ourselves for the "real" world, ALL students will need to have a professional E-mail address. This will also allow everyone to have an online drive where they can save and share assignments. Google E-Mail: DUE BY END OF CLASS TUESDAY, 08/04/15. SEND ME AN E-MAIL ( [email protected]) TO CONFIRM. Here's a link to a short video tutorial: G-MAIL SET UP Log in to Office365 (using your student ID and password), In OneDrive, create a folder for your class (Initials-AVTF1,2,3,HV) Share with me - rights to view: Due by end of class Friday, 8/07/15. In your AVTF folder, create a document - "5 R's" - shared with me ([email protected]) Due by end of class Friday, 01/09/15. GENERAL COURSE OUTLINE Just to give you an idea what you might expect over the course of the semester, here's a link to an Excel sheet with tabs on the bottom for each course. It is a "living" document and will change depending on our progress etc., What won't change is the main project milestones. While these may or may not be graded, I (and former students) highly recommend you follow them. GENERAL COURSE OUTLINE AVTF-1 We will be learning how to tell a story - visually, using a variety of means and professional editing software. These skills can be used in almost any career and make your Vine, Instragram, YouTube video even better! Here's a link to the syllabus with the standards and grading policy: AVTF-1 SYLLABUS This week we'll be going over professionalism, the importance of trade associations, and get ourselves set up administratively. We'll also jump in with a short video assignment. CELL PHONE INTRO ASSIGNMENT AVTF -2 Now that we know the basics of pre-production, production, post-production and how to use each to help tell our story, we will be going into more advanced areas of camera control (using professional XA-10's), Advanced Editing and graphics with the Adobe suite of products, and our final project will be a 5-7 minute documentary. Here's a link to the syllabus with the standards & grading policy: AVTF-2 SYLLABUS CELL PHONE INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT AVTF-3 Our main focus in this course is to take all that we have learned in the previous two courses, and work on independent and small group productions, primarily for outside entities. (Harrison Administration, local companies, charitable organizations). We will also be looking to participate in video contests. Lastly, we will prepare for the End of Pathway Assessment. Here's the link to the syllabus with the standards and grading policy: AVTF-3 SYLLABUS CELL PHONE INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT HoyaVision / HARRISON TODAY (BVP-APP) We are in a rebuilding mode this semester, transitioning from a class broadcasting live daily morning news and a weekly entertainment program to a program with a purpose. Our live morning announcement show has continued to raise the bar both with the programming and technical aspects. We will look to continue that advancement this semester. HoyaVision has demonstrated its ability to reach thousands, not only within the walls of Harrison, but the community at large. As such, we are now valuable resource for the school and local community and will take the creative talents that we have been bringing to the show and focusing them on a common mission: "CELEBRATING THE HARRISON COMMUNITY". We will be following the State standards more strictly, emulating professional broadcasts and developing our storytelling skills to a wider audience.
