Welcome Back!I hope you all had a chance to relax and enjoy the break. I was able to spend some time with family, do a little community service, escape for a couple of days, play Santa on Facetime with Chandler and spend some time with Hannah at her school. Could use about one more week - but that's coming soon enough. EVERYONEAs we look to expand our program, thanks to some awesome students and generous families, we will be dedicating an edit bay to audio. We need to sound proof a spot for our voice-overs, podcasts, etc. The last edit bay by the back storage area will be locked and "signed out" for audio only. We'll start installing the audio tiles in the next week. Thanks for your understanding and I look forward to better sounding audio on our packages. GRADES Grades closed on last Friday. While there were a ton of 90's - even some 100's with the extra-credit collected, there were still way too many <85's. The primary reason: NOT doing the regular, week-to-week assignments. Giving up on the easy A's. Please fix that now before it get's too late to really affect the grade. Another cause were projects submitted in GA Share improperly labelled. If it's not labelled correctly, it's a zero. Please get used to naming things properly. It's not only important for video work, but in any occupation with computers. File retrieval depends on following the proper nomenclature. HOYAVISION - HSPNNATAS - SE Student Production Awards are due by Thursday. They cost $25/ea. Depending on the number submitted, we may be able to pay for some or all of the fees. Please get your entries to me by Wednesday so we can submit them. We're 1/3 of the way through the semester. We've done some pretty good stories and have had some good shows. I'd like for each of us, myself included, to find 4 more ways we can raise the bar on our upcoming segments and shows. Let's pick one thing each week to try and then perfect the remainder of the semester for the rest of our shows. It could be audio, b-roll, location, telling our audience something they don't know, better lighting, better voice-overs, better interviews, more interviews to get more perspectives, news, etc. 4 things that's all. I think we can do it and our shows will be better for it and audiences will appreciate it. Let's go get it! PITCHES: Please be sure to work with your partners each week to research your story ideas - "pre-interview" and determine what the story will be and how you can film and show it now. Most importantly - make sure you can articulate why your audience will want to watch it or should watch it. Write it all down BEFORE you go into your pitch session. This week: MONDAY: GREEN CREW HARRISON TODAY TUESDAY: HSPN FRIDAY: GREEN CREW HOYAVISION AVTF-2 PER 2This week we'll start adding to our toolkit to raise the bar on our production value. Introducing: ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS! We'll learn the basic layout and how to combine layers and effects to make our images move, add special effects, and correct some of our shots. We'll have an After Effects vocab quiz on Friday. Here's the link to the Quizlet studyguide: ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS If you want to get more practice on After Effects, come by every Monday after school in the AVTF room (901) for Motion Graphics Club. This week we should also start seriously looking at what we will be doing for our final projects. We'll review the rubrics and elements this week as well. AVTF-1 PER 3PRE-PRODUCTION! Well, we've learned the basics of production (filming/recording) and the basics of post-production (editing). This week we'll be taking a look at pre-production. We'll learn the importance of storyboarding and how it can be used to help with the production and post-production of your project. (NOTE: STORYBOARDING IS A HUGE PART OF YOUR FINAL PROJECT!) We'll also learn about scripts - specifically screenplays. We'll practice on some small items and then you will be planning your own small project. We will have a vocab quiz for this unit on Friday. Here's the link to the Quizlet Studyguide: STORYBOARD & SCRIPT WRITING VOCAB In addition to pre-production, we'll also be taking an in-depth look at our final projects so that you can start putting some serious thought into these final projects. AVTF-3 PER 4This week you'll wrap up your 1 minute PSA's and News Story. I'll be grading on the pre-production, production, and post-production. The goal of these projects are to produce professional quality products that can be submitted to my advisory committee for review and critique. Please take this seriously - plan for success and execute the plan. Pay attention to details. The videos are due on the GA Share Drive by the end of class on Friday.
After a week of planning, I'd like to meet with each team to hear your pitch for your project. We'll review the PITCH TEMPLATE first thing on Monday and then have you pitch the last half of the period.

MY VISION COME TRUEOne of the main points I made when interviewing for this job was the opportunities I would have to involve some of my best students in real-world productions outside the classroom. To have members of my Advisory Committee along to teach, guide and be an example for my students. This weekend, I couldn't have been more proud as I watched a number of my students produce a 4 camera shoot of a Roswell Parks & Recreation Dance Starz event. Out of all the schools in Fulton County - some with AMAZING video programs, they keep coming back to us because of the quality work we do at these events. Many graduating seniors rely in these programs use this footage for scholarships. THANK YOU! EVERYONEThe grades will be closing soon for the 4th six week progress reports. Please remember to get your work in on time. Remember my policy: 1 day late is 25% off; 2 days - 50% off; and 3 days is 75% off. You have time in class to complete the assignments - make sure you use it wisely. FALL 2019 HOYAVISION - HSPN INTERVIEWS I'll be interviewing the Producers and Directors for the crews of the 2019 Fall Crews this week. Please make sure you're prepared. See the interview tips up at the top of the right sidebar of my blog. Crew members will be selected when we return after the break. For those interested in the film industry and what's going on in Georgia, the GEORGIA FILM ACADEMY will be Skyping in on Wednesday from 3 - 3:30 and will continue for the Film Club from 3:30 - 4 pm. If you are interested in participating, please let me know which session you would like to attend so I can plan accordingly. HOYAVISION - HSPN
EVERYONEPlease be sure to come to class with the "Right Materials": Something to write on, write with, Class 10 SD card, headphones to connect to a 1/8" jack. It's a good habit to get into, no matter where you go. This week, I'll be spot checking the external hard-drives to make sure we're following the proper procedures for our projects. All raw footage needs to be in a project folder along with the Premiere Pro project file. The project folder should be in your folder in the class folder in SPR19 folder. Any files not in a project folder will be deleted. This is a great way to help others and add to your community service hours. It also demonstrates active participation in your CTSO - a key element for National Technical Honor Society consideration.
HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISIONAlex Miller really enjoyed talking with you last week. She sent along some resources that may help with finding the stories and pitching them. EVERYONE, including Producers and Directors, will need to watch a short video on finding the stories and write a short response on how we can use these ideas to help find stories around Harrison. This is due in your Class Notebook, Homework section by Friday, 2/8/19. Green Crew and HSPN are on this week. Let's go get it! AVTF-2 PERIOD 2We'll be wrapping up our videos on Cables and Connectors by end of class on Friday. Make sure you understand the cables, connectors and how they're used. We'll have a vocab quiz on them on Monday. AVTF-1 PERIOD 3This week we'll be introduced to Adobe Premiere Pro CC and a basic workflow. By the end of the week, we'll be able to: Create a project Import files to be used in your video How to trim the files and put them in order you want for your video Add a lower third title and credits Fade in and out of the video Export the video We'll also have a vocab quiz on Friday. Let's make movies! AVTF-3 PERIOD 4Now that our CTAE and Language Arts commercials are wrapping up, we're going to take a look at how to Color Correct and Color Grade our projects to help add some polish to our videos. We'll be using the Adobe training resources to walk us through the process. They have made it alot easier in these lastest versions of the software.
Monday we'll get some footage that we'll use for the tutorials and turn in "Before & After" screen shots of each of the steps in the Tutorial - turning them into GA Share. |
