Getting there....HUGE THANK YOU TO MY STUDENTS Change is never easy. Trying to function literally in the middle of change is definitely not fun. I want thank all my students for their flexibility and determination to continue to learn and get better with what we have. That shows solid character. Our new space continues to be worked on and progress in the control room is being made. Our integrator, Amitrace, has been working hard to get our studio operations up and running as fast as pieces arrive. We are changing up the standard layout of one long 7 bay console, to have three separate consoles arranged similar to that of a broadcast truck. Here's a photo of the first console with teleprompter, NewTek TC1 switch, and Director's seat. CLASSROOM STATUS: We are holding classes in the classroom and have been able to use the new Recordex multimedia display for some of our lessons. Huge shoutout to our Harrison & Cobb County IT departments for getting us connected with wi-fi and hardwired connectivity in the edit bays. They will be out soon to get power and connectivity to the remaining classroom computers. According to his profile on LinkedIn, Sr. De Miguel is "Exceptionally skilled at directing, producing, writing and editing, highly prepared and talented at leading project development from conception to finish. Held roles at all stages of a production and levels in media outlets such as Univision. Creative Director, Broadcast Engineer, Studio Director, editor, writer and camera in TV, Radio and Digital." Please take a few minutes to check out his profile on LinkedIn and watch some of the videos he's produced with Sra. Mariela Romero: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCSze8VZSIY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qiUy6zolFU Please come prepared with questions for Mr. De Miguel about filming and editing segments. He's an awesome teacher! This semester we will continue to work on our basics: - GOOD STORYTELLING - Compelling subjects - beginning, middle, & end - focus - SEGMENT ORGANIZATION - Interesting b-roll with great NAT SOUNDS, reporter VO focusing on the facts of the segment, interviews share the emotion, with plenty of b-roll to go around. - "DELIVERING THE NEWS - NOT JUST READING IT" - advice from WSB-TV's Fred Blankenship for our talent on our last visit. This week's focus that we will use will be STORYTELLING. After watching pitches - we need to get more specific on the topic. We only have 1 - 2 minutes for the story - to tell the beginning, middle - and end. To help drill down and focus, we will be story mapping our ideas BEFORE we pitch. Instructions are in the Class Notebook and we'll review on Monday. To help DELIVER the news, rather than read it, the Producer and Director will schedule a mandatory practice session with the crew to work on our delivery (and train the various technical positions. Preferably it should be held the day before, but no later than 9:00 the day of broadcast. This will begin this week - starting Monday. AVTF - 2: PERIOD 2This week, I'll be checking the lighting skills for the remaining two groups. To wrap up the lighting unit, you'll do some research on the "Gaffer"/ "Lighting Director" position and determine the electrical needs of a 3-point lighting set up in your house. Despite not having all the classroom computers available to edit, we will be using the 7 edit bays to get started. This week we'll refresh our memories on the editing workflow and learn about the various cables, their purpose in the video production arena. AVTF - 1: PERIOD 1This week I'll continue to spot check your abilities with the Canon cameras. If you're not sure about how to do something or find a menu item - ask and figure out how you'll remember for the future.
Continuing with the cameras, we'll reinforce what we know about framing and start filming examples of shot compositions. We'll also learn more about camera movements how to do them and how they can help with your videos. There'll be a vocab quiz on Friday dealing with Camera Movements & Shot Composition. Here's the link to the Quizlet studyguide: CAMERA MOVEMENTS & SHOT COMPOSITION We'll also take a look at the job of Cinematographer (Camera Operator) NOTICE: |
