Welcome back everyone! I hope you found time to relax and recharge over the break. If you took some well composed shots, post and tag #FallBreak16. ATTENTION FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: The PSAT's will be administered on Wednesday, October 19th. With the recently re-vamped SAT's this past Spring, this will provide a good basis on where your strengths as well as areas you may be struggling with. Here's a link to a great preparation site that will help you prepare for the PSAT and SAT.... PSAT/NMSQT: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/official-student-guide-psat-nmsqt-2016.pdf The SkillsUSA chapter is hosting a LAND THAT JOB! series over the next several weeks. Monday, October 3rd's session will be on NETWORKING: Tips on making a good first impression with adults. It will be held in the Harrison Room (room 100), right across from the College & Career Center. See poster above for more info about this and the upcoming sessions. Please don't forget to submit your journal entry starting Thursday (so you have a chance to learn something) This week we're going to learn about professionally critiquing someone's work. We're going to start reviewing our HARRISON TODAY, HSPN, and HoyaVision shows on a weekly basis. It will be good for the crew of those shows to see what you think of their episode and good for you to learn how to professionally and honestly share how you feel about someone's work, be it a blog post, show, or anything. Here are the basic steps: 1. Acknowledge a positive aspect or segment about the show. Be specific. Example: On the 09/23/16 HARRISON TODAY episode, I like how you updated us on the latest game and match results for the Freshman and JV teams on Thursday. 2. Build on what they were trying to show by adding personal experience. Example: Varsity seems to get all the attention, it's nice that you take the time to recognize the Freshman & JV teams. I know some of my friends play on JV, and it really helps build their confidence. It would be nice if you would do the same for the other sports as well. 3. Concluded with a critical thinking or Socratic question to the individual or crew. Example: What do you think about doing an interview with some of the JV players as part of the segment? Each AVTF level and Broadcast Crews will be assigned a show to review using the A-B-C Method above. The reviews are to be posted in the comment section of this week and is due by end of day on Friday. HOYAVISION/HARRISON TODAY/HSPN: Congrats to Jennifer Tull who visited Chattahoochee Tech to watch the taping of Play To Win, football show this past Thursday. She was able to sit in on the production meeting, watch the show being recorded and was even given a segment on air! Nicely done Jennifer! HARRISON TODAY: Sydney Wease assumes the Producer role and Kevin Cerny assumes the Director role for the month of October. Please be sure to insert your Monday segment onto the Harrison Spreadsheet. HSPN: Please be sure to follow up on all the great news on our sports teams from over the break. If possible, maybe we can get an interview with one of the Sports Hall of Fame inductees. Please make sure your segments for each week are on the run down for the month of October. HoyaVision: Green Crew will be broadcasting this week. Both crews will need to complete the rundown for the month of October times will be required for this week's and next week's shows. AVTF-1 We'll be wrapping up our Pre-planning unit this week. Using the storyboard and screenplay you produced the week before Fall break, you will be recording and editing your :15 second commercial. We'll also have a brief quiz on pre-production on Friday. Here's a link to a video regarding the basic parts to a screenplay. Please take a few minutes to watch it and refresh your memory and then leave a comment on what you learned or reinforced about screenplays from the video: HOW TO FORMAT A SCREENPLAY AVTF-2
We will be covering a few different units starting this week. First we'll be learning more about the After Effects CC program and will create a couple of projects to reinforce the concepts of keyframes and motion. At the same time, we will be breaking into teams of 4 - 5 and will begin our coverage of the issues that will be on the ballot in November (not the candidates - the issues.). You'll receive more specific information on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

DUE FRIDAY: 09/23/16
Quick question for everyone: Yesterday, the Emmys (broadcast and web based shows) were awarded. Under comments, tell me YOUR best show and why it's the best. Is it the story? The writing? Scenery? Camera work? Lighting? Actors/Actresses? Be specific about WHY whatever element you choose makes that show the best for you. EVERYONE :-) I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and didn't get too wet. I felt honored to give a motorcycle ride to a high school freshman from Birmingham, AL as part of the Birmingham Ride for Kids. She had lost her younger brother to brain cancer not too long ago, so this was a nice diversion. If you can find a way to share your hobby with someone in need, there's no better feeling. This is the final week before Fall break. Let's be sure to finish strong. HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISION This week HARRISON TODAY will continue to refine it's Monday shows with remote reporting for Clubs and Sports news. It's Blue Crew's week - HSPN will stream live on Tuesday with reports on Football, Softball, & Volleyball. HoyaVision will broadcast on Friday . The XA-10 Worksheets will be graded as final this week as well. AVTF-1 We will be covering Pre-Production this week. Storyboarding & Script writing. We'll be going over the required elements of a storyboard - there are 6: Time of Day, Location, Framing/Shot Composition, Actor/Camera Movement, Brief Description, and Numbering of Scenes. In addition to sketching out your plans for your video, scripts also help plan your video. This week we'll review the parts and formatting of a SCREENPLAY, what's typically used for commercials, TV shows, movies, etc. It has a lot of the same elements of a storyboard, without the pictures. The formatting, what's capitalized, what's centered, what's in parantheses are all part of a screenplay script. The culminating project for the pre-production unit will be a 00:15:00 commercial. The pre-production must be completed by this Friday and be done before you film the commercial. Pre-production Assignment: In addition to the planning, storyboarding and writing the screen play for your :15 second commercial, take a few minutes and watch this short piece on how Pixar storyboards their movies. Leave a comment about what was your biggest take-away from the video. PIXAR STORYBOARDING MINI-DOC (YouTube) To help you with the elements of a screen play, here is a quick guide listing the basic elements: Hello everyone! I hope you were able to enjoy the weekend. Unfortunately the Bills lost, so it's going to be one of "those" Mondays ;-) This week the final project song/documentary topic is due. Please post in the Homework section of your Class Notebook. HARRISON TODAY / HoyaVision / HSPN This week HARRISON TODAY will be taking the show to the halls and campus of Harrison for the announcements. Way to mix it up! We're also airing our 9-11 Remembrance segment. Very proud of the segment you put together! It will be shared with our Advisory Committee and others. You should be proud as well. We will be continuing to work on our equipment knowledge and I've decided to make the Canon XA-10 Worksheet due in Class Notebook by Friday for everyone - Technical Crew and Talent. The worksheet is located in the Content tab of the Class Notebook - copy and past the sheet into your Homework Tab and complete the sheet. Here's a link to download the sheet should you want to print it off to work on: CANON XA-10 CHECKLIST Please put the initials of those people that checked you off on the skill. IMPORTANT!! If the person is not rock solid on the skill - DO NOT sign off on it. We're going for Mastery on this. Whatever is not signed off, we'll do some quick hit training next week. AVTF-1 Now that you have some practice at using the camera, framing, camera movement; and simple editing: starting a project, importing assets, putting it on a timeline, cutting, adding dissolves and titles, and exporting; it's time to tell a story. This week's project will be a 30 Second Commercial from a product sold in the Hole In The Wall. Here's a link to the project description and rubrics: HOLE IN THE WALL COMMERCIAL AVTF-2
Your AVTF Promo Videos came out really well - especially for some of you having a year break from the class and dealing with new gear and new software. Nice job shaking the rust off. Now we're going to teach ourselves, and others through a video, what the various cables and connectors are that are used in the video business. Here's a link to the rubric: CABLE & CONNECTOR TYPES AND TRANSFER PROTOCOLS The research and pre-production work is due by this Friday 09/16/16. The final video is due by next Friday, 09/23/16. In addition to the video project, it's very important to know your gear. Now that you've had time to use the Canon XA-10 cameras, you need to master the basic skills of using it. |
