CONGRATULATIONS HARRISON HS SKILLSUSA CHAPTER!Our Harrison Chapter of SkillsUSA represented well at the 2019 SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference & Skills Competition. We had a great time and competed well. Special shoutout to Graphics and Design's Kaitlyn Avery for taking home a Silver medal in the Photography Competition. The Harrison Chapter was also recognized as a Quality Chapter for the 2018-2019 year. The SkillsUSA sponsored LAND THAT JOB! series concluded with Mr. Suain, the owner/operator of two local Chik-Fil-A stores and Chik-Fil-A Leadership Academy point of contact, talking to participants about what managers are looking for in their employees who want to keep their jobs. EVERYONEWe're nearing the end of the 2nd 6-week progress report. Please make sure to turn in all work on time and continue to communicate with your teachers about your grades and what YOU can do to better understand the material to solidify the grade you want. FINAL PROJECTSAs we head into April, and Spring Break next week, let's not forget that our final projects are ALL DUE ON FRIDAY 5/3/19. Everyone has a Portfolio Website to complete. Remember to have a separate page for each section. Your reel must be updated with your newest, best work - minimum of 4 video clips. Be sure to see the required elements in the right sidebar of this blog. AVTF-1: You also have a 2-4 minute Music Video to produce by May 3rd. Be sure to look at the rubric and required elements for PRE-PRODUCTION (Storyboard & Proposal), PRODUCTION (Filming), & POST-PRODUCTION (Editing). AVTF-2: You also have a 5-7 minute Mini-Documentary to produce by May 3rd. Be sure to look at the rubric for the PRE-PRODUCTION, PRODUCTION, and POST-PRODUCTION. AVTF-3: We have the SENIOR SLIDESHOW to complete by April 22nd. We also have the Graduation "Make 'Em Cry" video which is due by May 13th. Don't lose sight of these! Take advantage of every free moment in my class to work on these. BROADCAST CLASS PER 1HOYAVISION & HSPN: I've added the remainder of the rundowns to the rundown sheet. Please be sure to update the rundowns. That's a large part of the PRODUCER'S GRADE! I've also moved the link to the sheet in Class Notebook to it's own tab so it's easier for the crews to look at it. GREEN CREW: You're up this week! PLEASE work on including a beginning, middle, and end to all segments. HSPN: Please be sure to complete the team spreadsheet for last week's games (through this Monday) for Tuesday's shows. AVTF-2 PER 2This week we're working on the filming of our AVTF Promo video. Please be sure to include smooth camera motion (not including zooming and panning) to your shots. As your customer, I'm looking for action, participation, and interest catching soundbites, and upbeat royalty free background music. Ideally, I'd like the video to be 1:30 - 2:00 minutes long so we can show it on our broadcasts. We'll also be reviewing and making any needed changes to the proposals to turn back in by Friday. AVTF-1 PER 3This week we'll be wrapping up the online vocab quiz about TRANSITIONS, EDITING, & KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS on Monday and introducing the AUDIO unit. We'll be learning about microphones, pick-up patterns and how to do basic audio edits in Premiere Pro. I'd like to target the AUDIO VOCAB QUIZ for Thursday before break. AVTF-3 PER 4This week we'll begin our EOPA preparation in earnest. Our free time will be used to work on the final Senior Video Projects, work on our final Portfolio websites - specifically updating info and new reels, and for those not assigned to a senior project - planning a 2-4 minute video for your final project.

EVERYONEWe had a very busy week last week - especially Tuesday This week we're covering preparing for the job interview... Out of the 4 sessions, I believe this to be the most important. The tips offered in this session will benefit you in any interview - job or otherwise, for the rest of your life. Our presenter will be Mr. Watson, a Publix store manager who is VERY familiar with interviewing. I am offering 5 extra credit points for all of my students who attend. Hope to see you there!
HOYAVISION - HSPNThis week let's really focus on our stories - having a beginning, middle, and end. Introduce your topic in an engaging way to bring your audience into the story. Use the middle to have your interviews share the HOW AND WHY'S of the story, and finally conclude the segment to remind your audience what it was about. HSPN - Let's work on presenting a thorough summary of our Hoya sports teams. Provide a brief recap of the games that were played since last Tuesday, with stats and player/athlete standouts for each game and provide the schedule for the upcoming week. If you don't have a segment/highlights of the various matches, then please be sure to create a graphic for your sports. Green Crew goes on with HARRISON TODAY on Monday and HoyaVision on Friday. HSPN will go on Tuesday. AVTF-2 PERIOD 2This week we'll be going a little deeper into lighting. We learned the basics of a 3 point light set up in AVTF-1. We'll be going a little deeper and learn how to create different lighting effects to help make our videos look a little more polished. We'll look at some examples and then split into groups with everyone taking turns setting up the lights to achieve the listed look. AVTF-1 PERIOD 3We'll look to wrap up our Photoshop tutorials on Monday and we'll move on to lighting by Tuesday. We'll learn the basics of lighting - types, set-ups, modifiers and how to use them. There will also be a vocab quiz on Monday. Here's the link to the Quizlet study guide: LIGHTING VOCAB STUDY GUIDE AVTF-3 PERIOD 4This week we'll be filming and editing our Copyright, Creative Commons videos. Be sure you understand the topics and can properly cite your references to graphics, videos and music.
