WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!!
I hope you were able to enjoy the summer (although it was WAAY too short for me!) We've got some exciting things happening in our AVTF program this year. One of the most important things that we have going for us this year - especially for those students looking to get into UGA's Communication program (one of the top 10 in the country), we now have a representative from their program on our Advisory Committee. He has seen the work of our broadcast teams and believes we have a good solid base to grow from. I can't wait to get his feedback on all 4 levels of our program. Another exciting addition will be the full, 4 camera, live streaming kit! I applied and we were approved by the County and the State to add on to our gear and we will be looking to add more live events to our mix to include Sports (live stream and On Demand) as well as events, school concerts, etc.. This will provide many more opportunities to participate on a crew both behind and in front of the camera as show hosts, play by play, reporters, etc. To add even more opportunities, we are looking to sign with the NFHS Network to stream our sports events. They partner with GHSA and will now allow us to stream our playoff games! In classes, we will be looking to do even more hands on projects, however, that does mean that you will need to manage your time in class more closely to complete everything. Speaking of classes, to help get the grades and test scores up, Harrison will be utilizing a Hoya Block twice each week. Those classes are 40 minutes each on Wednesdays and Thursdays. These will start up the third week of August. Career Tech will utilize this time to better prepare those wishing to take and pass the End Of Pathway Assessment and earn the Career Tech cord. For us in AVTF, we will be branching out and working on short films - using that as a way to hit the EOPA items that aren't focused on in our Standards. This will be done using SkillsUSA contest criteria (so we can practice and enter that contest in the Spring of next year. So if you want to get involved with more film making, and have or are currently taking AVTF classes, be sure to sign up. There will only be 28 spots in the class. With the addition of Hoya Block periods, our live stream broadcast schedule will change as well. Once Hoya Block starts, HARRISON TODAY will have an 8 minute show to live stream on Mondays; HSPN will broadcast an 8 minute show on Tuesdays; and HoyaVision (without announcements or sports) will have an 8 minute show on Fridays. HARRISON TODAY will continue to prepare and post the daily announcements online on our broadcast site. (the link at the top of the sidebar on the right). We will also be taking advantage of the 2016 Elections for project opportunities. Even though students will be off from school on Tuesday, November 8th, we will be airing an Election 2016 Results show that evening. Our resident aspiring political journalist, Mia Nelson, will serve as the Executive Producer for the program. All levels of AVTF will be working on segments and the show. We are talking with Comcast about the possibility of having access to a cable channel that evening as well. To do all that, it will take some $$ for equipment, air time, etc. We will be selling ad space on our HARRISON TODAY, HSPN, and HoyaVision shows - both streamed and posted. To help us with that, we are looking to establish an Harrison Broadcast Booster Club. I will be providing more information about that in the upcoming blog posts. Whew! There's our update! Now on to the class info: In order to accomplish all those cool things, we're going to need some help from your parents. Unfortunately, not all the contact information in Synergy is correct, so I'm assigning this easy 2 minute form to be completed this is due by the end of class on Tuesday.
OFFICE 365 ONE NOTE CLASS NOTEBOOKS
This is mandatory for this semester. All "paperwork" including worksheets, written responses, etc. as well as Class Assignments will be handled through your Class Notebooks. You can access your notebook by clicking on the link in the sidebar on the right for your class. Here's a link to a Mix to explain how to use your Class Notebook: "TELL ME A STORY"
Our "theme" for ALL of our classes is "Tell Me A Story". That's what videos are - a way to tell a story.
AVTF - 1 This week we will begin with a short assignment designed to get to know you better and see how you film using your smartphone as a camera. We will also learn some basic story telling elements as well as some key skills used and needed on sets of all broadcasts and movies. AVTF - 2 We will dive right into learning the new cameras and refreshers on editing as we tell each other's stories through interviews of each other. I'm also thinking of doing this all on smartphones - we'll see. HARRISON TODAY, HSPN, HoyaVision We'll be jumping right in. HARRISON TODAY will broadcast their first show on Tuesday and will be broadcasting everyday going forward until HOYA BLOCK starts. HSPN will begin their broadcasts next Tuesday introducing the Fall Sports teams as they prepare to get their seasons underway.
