Hello Everyone!! We're heading into week 5 and can look forward to a 3 day weekend ahead. Last week was another great week. Our broadcast crews put on some great shows, AVTF -2 made some great progress on the promo videos and STEM video for Administration, our Advisory Committee was very successful and will look to coordinate some new opportunities for our upper level studentsand our Fall Open House was a lot of fun! Shout out to Will S. & Jennifer T. from HSPN for taking advantage of an opportunity to interview Fox 5 reporter, Bill Hartman at the Hoyas vs Rome football game on Friday: Special thanks to AVTF-1 crew member, Sam B. and AVTF-2 crew member, L. Welte for your help getting footage of Friday's game. This week is RALLY WEEK, benefiting the Rally Foundation, a non-profit that raises awareness and funds for research into better treatments and cures for childhood cancer, because kids are worth more than 4 cents. Please support the cause by bringing in change to donate to your first period's class. STUDENT MEDIA DAY 2016: (click above link for more info) Sponsored by MEFGA Saturday, September 10, 2016 STUDENT MEDIA DAY 2016 REGISTRATION (click above link to register for the event) Just a reminder to everyone: PLEASE BE SURE TO TURN YOUR ASSIGNMENTS IN ON TIME. There is plenty of time during the class periods to complete your work. Use your time efficiently. HARRISON TODAY - HOYAVISION - HSPN We'll be highlighting RALLY week by airing a brief Rally Kid profile on all our shows as well as brief commercials for Rally Week t-shirts. We're honored to have WSB-TV's Tyisha Fernandez visiting us on Monday. Please take a moment to research some of her more recent stories and come prepared to ask some questions. She'll be talking about her professional journey to WSB-TV and will be working with Talent from all crews and anchors in HOW to cover a story and write it to the video. AVTF-1 We spent last week working on our camera skills. This week, we'll learn the basics about Adobe Premiere and how to set up a project and basic editing. However you need to learn the material, please be sure to do that. It will be very important that we follow procedures as we set up the projects, each and every time. We will have a vocab quiz on the basics of Adobe Premiere Pro CC this Friday. Here's a link to the vocab words on Quizlet: ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CC BASICS VOCAB In addition to the vocab words, there will be a matching section where you'll need to know the layout of Premiere Pro. Here's a screen capture for you to study. We will also be doing another summary on the article "Five Shots, 10 Seconds", by Mindy McAdams. I've uploaded it to the Class Notebook, but here's the link to the article as well:
FIVE SHOTS, 10 SECONDS ARTICLE AVTF-2 We'll continue to work on the editing the AVTF promo videos. I'll be working with each group on their scripts and proposals. Stay tuned for ongoing updates.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to stop by and check out your child's Audio Video Technology and Film class!
Welcome Everyone!
I want to open with a sincere, heartfelt congratulations to Harrison High School's Ms. Allard for being named the 2016 Cobb County Teacher of the Year! Our Superintendent, Mr. Ragsdale stopped by our Friday AM Pep Rally to make the announcement. Here's the link to the announcement: https://youtu.be/E41smdom2_8
Congratulations Ms. Allard! You're an inspiration to us all and are certainly deserving of the recognition!
Please be sure to congratulate Ms. Allard when you see her. Just as an aside, this piece was filmed, edited, and posted entirely on an iPhone. Now on to our program. I hope you all were able to enjoy the weekend. We're now in full swing and are already building on a strong start. Our AVTF-1 students are already working on camera controls and mastering the camera essentials. AVTF-2 students are making great progress on their videos promoting the AVTF program. They are stretching their skills and it's so cool to watch them figure out how to do some pretty advanced techniques and succeed. I'm also impressed with the level of effort towards producing a quality product. This truly reflects well on you. In addition to the AVTF videos, Julia and Lauren are coordinating a special video for our Administration on our STEM initiative. They are impressing all the teachers and administrators involved with their professionalism and communication skills. HoyaVision and HARRISON TODAY students have also been very busy, with Green Crew opening up with a VERY good show which is posted up on the website. Be sure to check it out! We had a number of HV-HT members covering all the events at the Pep Rally and we'll be seeing those on Tuesday's Blue Crew's HSPN. With Superintendent Ragsdale's visit, we were able to work with the Cobb County Communications Department to gain access to Mr. Ragsdale and work on our authentic interviewing skills. With Julia Liberatore and Sydney Wease serving as the technical crew, Mia Nelson and Jennifer Tull did an amazing job picking up quick interview pointers from Director and Assistant Director of Communications, Ms. Donna Lowry and Ms. Lisa Watson, and recorded an impressive interview with Mr. Ragsdale
Finally for all: our Harrison HS Administration has demonstrated their amazing support for our program, as they have approved the purchase of additional computers and RAM to bring us up date to run the current Adobe Production Premium CC. Be sure to thank Mr. O'Neill and Ms. Campbell for their support and belief in our program.

AVTF - 1
We'll continue to work on mastering the camera controls on the JVC Everios and Canon cameras. Our ability to effectively control white balance, focus, video quality, etc., will have a huge impact on the quality of our videos. To that end we will be working on completing the Camera Checklist worksheet on our Class Notebook.. Here's a look at what you'll need to be able to do JVC / CANON CAMERA SKILL TEST In addition to the basic skills, we'll be learning about the shot compositions and the Rule of Thirds. We'll also learn about camera movement and how use these to make your shots more interesting. We'll have a vocab quiz on Friday on these topics. Here's the link to the Quizlet: SHOT COMPOSITION - CAMERA MOVEMENT We'll learn and practice those skills through Wednesday and split into teams of 4 to compete in a Video Scavenger Hunt where you will use the framing an camera movement skills as you complete the hunt! The details will be revealed on Thursday. To help keep these lessons with cameras relevant (framing, movement, etc.), I'd like for you to read the article: "Getting Started with Vine", by Weland Bourne in the Videomaker Magazine, September 2016 issue. https://www.videomaker.com/article/c05/18609-how-to-make-a-perfect-looping-vine After reading the article, write a paragraph summary of what the article dealt with. This is due in your Class Notebook by Friday 8/26/16 AVTF - 2 We're continuing to work on our AVTF Promo Video. You should be wrapping up the production portion and working on your post-production. We'll be walking through the process as you set your projects up. Please let me know if there are things that you would like to know about or know how to do to help make your video that way would like it to look. This isn't a test. I WANT your videos to look good. |
