JOURNALIST MEDIA DAYIf you are even somewhat interested in possibly pursuing a career in Journalism, this is an event you're going to want to attend. It's FREE, and we have journalists from broadcast, radio, print and online. Dress is business casual, you'll be making first impression with many journalists. Bring something to write with and write on - you'll need it for notes, and to submit an entry for the Interview session. Prizes will be awarded! We hope you can make it! Here's a list of the journalists attending: WSB-TV: Linda Stouffer (AM only) CNN’s Doug Criss East Cobber: Cynthia Rozzo Speaker & Journalism Trainer: Jim Clancy WCTI Anchor/Reporter & former on-air radio personality Cat Country 98.7: Merrilee Moore (via Skype) KSU’s School of Communication & Media Broadcast Instructor & former reporter: Stella Payne CBS 46: Karyn Greer (AM only) Patch.com: Krystal Dixon (AM only) WSB-RADIO: (former CNN Sports) Mark McKay AJC: Multimedia Journalist / Digital Coach Jennifer Brett HELP!! We'd like to ask for anyone interested in providing some fruit, cookies, brownies, and other simple light snacks for the Journalist Media Day, please contact me, Mr. Phelps, at [email protected] by Wednesday and let me know what you can bring. Thanks in advance for your assistance. TAKE IT AND RUN!!!I try to stay in touch with graduates from our AVTF & HARRISON TODAY-HSPN-HOYAVISION program. I'm so proud of the things they are doing with what they've taken from the program, be it the technical knowledge or simply the 5 'R's. That's the value of this course, you can learn something that is applicable no matter where you go or what you do. Here are a couple of examples former students shared with me. First, from Alanna ... And from another former student, Erin - now at UGA Grady School of Communication I'm so proud and happy for both of these students. I look forward to hearing YOUR successes too. HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISIONHARRISON TODAY: We'll be doing a quick update on the news in and around Harrison and gather graphics for our broadcast on Monday. Please share your script with me first thing in the AM as you write it. HSPN: We'll be working on our stories and b-roll/graphics and interviews for Tuesday's show. We'll review the order of the show's rundown and start the script on Monday. Please share it with me. HoyaVision: We'll be working off the rundown for Friday's show. If there are any changes to be made, it must go through the Producer who must let me know and make the changes on the rundown. Scripts and segments should plan to be done by Thursday. Pitches: Please continue to do one per week and comment on a pitch per week. I'm grading based on the thoroughness and preparation (research) of the idea/story; who you talked to ahead of time - hint: talking amongst the crew doesn't count - research OUTSIDE of the class roster. I'll also be grading on your presentation. It's OK to have notes (they're expected) but lose the "you know's" and "um's", and look at the camera when speaking. Convince your audience of the relatability and purpose of your pitch. Let's earn the A's this week. AVTF-3: We'll be reviewing for the EOPA everyday for the first 10-15 minutes of class - please prepare accordingly. AVTF-1 PER 2 & 3This week we'll begin the final unit of the class - the Broadcast Unit! It will culminate in a 12-14 minute show that you will produce and record ....LIVE to tape. This week, we'll be learning about the various positions and their responsibilities. We'll be taking a vocab quiz on these positions as well as some additional terms and concepts you'll need to know as you work through the unit. Here's a link to the Quizlet list. NOTE: THERE ARE 50 TERMS. WE ARE ONLY QUIZZING ON 25 OF THEM - THEY ARE STARRED. We'll quiz on the other 25 next week. QUIZLET STUDIO POSITIONS & TERMS The quiz will be this Friday. We'll also be working on some Career Worksheets for some of these positions as well. These will be spread out with one due each Friday. More details to follow. By the end of the week, we'll have divided up into two groups - each will be producing their own show. AVTF-3We should be wrapping up our current videos this week along with preparing for the EOPA.
We'll have one more video project to work on for the semester. I'll have more details this week.
