Hello Everyone! Time is flying by - we've finished the 2nd full week of school for the semester and heading full speed into week 3. We'll be fully engaged with all aspects of the curriculum starting this week. AVTF-1 will be diving in headfirst into the video portion of the curriculum; AVTF-2 will begin the production portion of their AVTF Program Video; and HoyaVision will start their new season on Friday during Advisement. Let's stay focused on the tasks at hand and follow the 5 R's. I want to recommend an event that is highly beneficial for anyone considering, even remotely, getting into the broadcast industry - in front of or behind the cameras: STUDENT MEDIA DAY 2016 - Saturday 09/10/16 It's a VERY informative 1/2 day at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) & Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) filled with tours, networking with the professionals, and informational sessions about the industry. Space is limited, so don't wait to register. NOTICE: CALLING ALL PROSPECTIVE SPORTS PLAY-BY-PLAY AND COLOR COMMENTATORS - We will be looking to stream either live or video on demand, several Hoya sporting events and need YOU to help bring the events to life. If you are interested in being "on-air" and celebrating our sports teams, please contact Mr. Phelps at [email protected] or stop by the Media Bldg (behind the band trailer) for more information. We are looking to stream our home Volleyball and possibly softball games. Knowledge of volleyball and softball are recommended. Broadcasts will begin in a couple of weeks. HARRISON TODAY - HOYAVISION - HSPN Huge shout-out to our small, but hardworking crew for handling all of our technical issues with professionalism. Welcome to the real world - where there's technology involved, something will go wrong. We did a great job with moving forward, learning and doing the best we possibly could. Nice job, everyone. Hopefully this week will go a little smoother. HSPN Crews worked on an assignment designed to get you thinking about your show and how it's presented. I'll be working with you to implement your ideas to emulate the WSB-TV Georgia Bulldog Game Week show. I also wanted to recognize the team of Jennifer Tull, Justin Helms and Jared Kilpatrick for their efforts in covering the Harrison Volleyball match last week. We were able to get some good B-roll and great interviews. We're looking forward to watching the segment on Tuesday's show. HoyaVision will be going on air on Friday at 9:58 AM with their first episode. We'll be Celebrating Harrison Academics, Fine Arts, someone from within Harrison, something from the outside Harrison Community and entertainment. Be sure to check it out at:
http://www.esenetworks.com/live-events.aspx?id=13452 Lastly for our Broadcast class, we will start the process of building our Portfolio Website using Weebly (free and easy). AVTF-1 This week we will be finishing our Safety Posters made in Photoshop, judging and selecting the top 15 to print and post around the building. We'll also begin to learn about the video cameras we will be using in class this semester. Please be sure to have your SD cards by Tuesday. We'll be learning some of the basic settings to help produce good, interesting video. We will also have a Vocabulary Quiz on Cameras and Tripods on Friday. Here's the link to the Quizlet study guide: CAMERAS & TRIPODS VOCAB AVTF-2 We are continuing to work on our AVTF PROGRAM VIDEO to be presented to our Advisory panel. I've reviewed the storyboards and there are just a couple of key areas that we need to go back and address: 1. MAKE THE VIDEO PERSONAL. It's not the equipment or software that make the program, it's the students and what the equipment and software enable them to do with it. Throughout your video - always emphasize what the program can do for the students. 2. MORE CLOSE UPS - EXTREME CLOSE UPS: When you make it personal - share the fun the students have in the program with the viewer. The way to do that is with close ups and extreme close ups. Before we start filming, please make those adjustments on your storyboards. Portfolio Website: We will begin to establish and work on our professional Portfolio Website this week as well. It is weighted as a Summative Project, so ongoing attention to detail is key.

DUE FRIDAY: 09/23/16 Quick question for everyone: Yesterday, the Emmys (broadcast and web based shows) were awarded. Under comments, tell me YOUR best show and why it's the best. Is it the story? The writing? Scenery? Camera work? Lighting? Actors/Actresses? Be specific about WHY whatever element you choose makes that show the best for you. EVERYONE :-) I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and didn't get too wet. I felt honored to give a motorcycle ride to a high school freshman from Birmingham, AL as part of the Birmingham Ride for Kids. She had lost her younger brother to brain cancer not too long ago, so this was a nice diversion. If you can find a way to share your hobby with someone in need, there's no better feeling. This is the final week before Fall break. Let's be sure to finish strong. HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISION This week HARRISON TODAY will continue to refine it's Monday shows with remote reporting for Clubs and Sports news. It's Blue Crew's week - HSPN will stream live on Tuesday with reports on Football, Softball, & Volleyball. HoyaVision will broadcast on Friday . The XA-10 Worksheets will be graded as final this week as well. AVTF-1 We will be covering Pre-Production this week. Storyboarding & Script writing. We'll be going over the required elements of a storyboard - there are 6: Time of Day, Location, Framing/Shot Composition, Actor/Camera Movement, Brief Description, and Numbering of Scenes. In addition to sketching out your plans for your video, scripts also help plan your video. This week we'll review the parts and formatting of a SCREENPLAY, what's typically used for commercials, TV shows, movies, etc. It has a lot of the same elements of a storyboard, without the pictures. The formatting, what's capitalized, what's centered, what's in parantheses are all part of a screenplay script. The culminating project for the pre-production unit will be a 00:15:00 commercial. The pre-production must be completed by this Friday and be done before you film the commercial. AVTF-2
This week we'll be wrapping up the production and post-production work on the cables and connectors videos. Please take the time to LEARN what these are and how they're used in our video production. Hello everyone! I hope you all survived the first week of school in good shape. I'm truly excited by my classes. This is going to be a great semester. Re: my blog, I'll typically point out the items that will affect everyone up top, then separate items by class level (HoyaVision, AVTF-1 & AVTF-2) so you can focus on those items you need to. ALL: We will all be using One Note Class Notebook to turn in written assignments. Be sure to log into the notebook using the link on the right side-bar of this blog. Log In: [email protected] P/W: (your network password) JOURNAL ENTRIES: EVERYONE; EVERY WEEK PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO: 1. CREATE A PAGE UNDER YOUR JOURNAL SECTION OF YOUR NOTEBOOK, NAME IT THAT FRIDAY'S DATE. 2. COPY THE JOURNAL QUESTIONS FROM THE JOURNAL SECTION IN MY CONTENT-jOURNAL FOLDER, TO YOUR JOURNAL SECTION OF YOUR NOTEBOOK, 3. ANSWER THE QUESTIONS RIGHT ON THAT PAGE. You MUST answer all 5 questions, they are worth 20 pts. each. EVERYONE MUST PURCHASE THEIR OWN, CLASS 10, SD CARD (minimum 8 GB, preferred 16 GB). HARRISON TODAY-HOYAVISION-HSPN There's a couple of key items to note: 1. Our Tricaster needs to be re-imaged. In the meantime, we will use our Remote LiveStream system to record and broadcast the show. Directors & TD's will need to become familiar with it. 2. I'll be working with the Techies on the XA-10 camera settings, including audio. 3. HSPN begins broadcasting this week. Both HSPN crews will need to watch an example of what we're trying to emulate. Here's a link to the Bulldogs Game Week. (It's an old episode, but gives you an idea of the type of show we're looking to produce) www.wsbtv.com/news/bulldogs-gameweek-aug-15-2015/32778113 There is an assignment in the Class Notebook for the HSPN crews re: the show. This will be due by Friday. AVTF-1 This week we will continue to work on storytelling. There were a lot of questions regarding the assignment. I apologize for the confusion. I have prepared a better write up in the Class Notebook under the 08/12/16 page. This will now be due on Friday. If you've already completed it and meet the criteria outlined, you're set. You will have up to Friday, 08/12/16, end of class, to modify it, if needed and turn it in. This week we will also take a closer look at the Safety Rules and our Career Tech Student Organization, SkillsUSA. There will be an assignment dealing specifically with SkillsUSA. To get you thinking about trade organizations and their value, you're assignment for Tuesday, 08/09/16, is to create a page in your Class Notebook, labelled TRADE ORGANIZATION. On that page, 1. List a trade organization in the field you're considering for a career, 2. Their acronym, 3. Describe (paraphrase) their Mission Statement. 4. Membership dues; and if they have student memberships. AVTF -2 This week, we will go over the Canon XA-10's and will have some filming exercises to work on. We will also be starting our pre-planning for the Harrison AVTF Program video.
