WELCOME 2018!!I hope you were able to relax and enjoy the Holidays with family and friends. I don't know about you, but I could use about 1 more week to get everything done that I had planned. THINGS TO THINK ABOUTFROM HHS ADMINISTRATION Happy New Year and welcome back, Hoyas! We are looking forward to another great semester! Be sure to check the school website for upcoming dates and academic information. As we begin a new semester, this is an excellent time to reflect on your high school experience thus far.
EVERYONEWelcome to my blog! If you've had me before, you're familiar with the layout and how it works if not, I'll be reviewing it in class on our first day back. Please be sure to bookmark it and check it daily, just to be sure you're up to date on everything. The blog will be posted Sunday for the upcoming week. I name each weekly post with the upcoming Friday's date. This week's blog will cover through next Friday, 01/12/18 given the short first week. FIRST THINGS FIRSTThe season continues for my Bills and our Falcons, at least through Saturday! It was a good break and will be a great week. BASICS In addition to the blog, we'll be using Class Notebook to submit most of our assignments. This allows you to complete and submit your work on time, with whatever device you wish. The links to your Class Notebooks are posted on the right sidebar. Be sure to check that it works and you're able to access it. Journals: We will continue to use our weekly journal in the Class Notebook - briefly answering 5 questions each week. This is a graded assignment and is due by end of day on Friday. NEW: To help develop our communication skills, we will be using FlipGrid for some assignments. My goal for this method is to have you think about what you're going to say and to reply professionally. These are key skills to learn and practice. CONTRACTS: This is a Career Tech class and I am looking to help make you college and career ready. Just as in the business world, there is a contract for you to read, understand and sign off on, along with your parents. It's one of the few hard copy items I hand out and have you turn in. Here's the link to the file: AVTF - HOYAVISION CONTRACT PROFESSIONAL E-MAIL: As part of developing your professional image for colleges and the workplace, it's important to have a professional e-mail address. Many an applicant loses an opportunity for a job based on the e-mail address alone. Your assignment, which is due by end of day on Friday, 01/05/18, is to send me an e-mail from your professional e-mail address. Please send your e-mail to: [email protected] CABLE BROADCAST OPPORTUNITYYou may not realize it, but our Cobb County School District has it's own cable channel on Comcast XFinity. Mr. Joshua Dempsey, former AVTF instructor for N. Cobb HS, is the station manager and is constantly looking for opportunities to promote your awesome work and have it air on Cobb EdTV. We've already had a few segments air, now those segment producers/technical crew members can say their work has been on broadcast television. Mr. Dempsey is looking for :60 sec PSA's. There are two possible themes for each month. Here's the link to the details. Please let me know if you are interested and I'll help get you going. COBB EDTV PSA OF THE MONTH HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISIONWelcome to another semester of broadcasting! This is a Level 4 class that we have been allowed to treat as a job. You needed to complete an application, interview, audition in some cases, present a reel of your best work thus far to be a part of this crew. YOU signed up for and were selected for this course, you were not reluctantly assigned the class. Our goal is to emulate real, professional television broadcasts. Administration has allowed us to broadcast to the school 3 days per week - during HoyaBlock time - during Advisement (9:58 - 10:06). These will be LIVE shows, and will require us to be on our game for the one, live take and to make the best use of our limited time leading up to the show to properly prepare and put our best efforts forward. Here's our weekly schedule: Mondays: HARRISON TODAY - News format - What's happening in and around the Harrison Community. It is not necessarily a morning announcement show, rather a daily (weekly) morning news show. It will have segments/packages and some features. Tuesdays: HSPN - Sports show format - All things Harrison Sports. Similar to an ESPN Sports Center or WSB-TV's Bulldog Gameweek We will look at profiling the Harrison Winter & Spring sports teams and athletes; breakdown of the games, matches, and events and updating our audience on the upcoming sporting events in the coming week. Fridays: HoyaVision - Magazine style format - Celebrating all things Harrison - Highlighting someone/something inside Harrison, Highlighting someone/something in the Harrison Community, an Academic area highlight and a Fine Arts highlight. We are also open to well produced comedic skits that appeal to the majority of our audience in a school appropriate fashion. There may be times, due to scheduling, where the shows will be pre-produced and posted directly to the website. Each crew has a student Producer and Director who are ultimately responsible for organizing all the activities associated with producing their episodes. They are to be afforded the respect/consideration as if it were your job in the real world. PITCHES: All segments will be pitched at least 3 full weeks in advance of the episode they are to be scheduled to air. The pitches will be delivered in teams of Talent/Techie on FlipGrid. Everyone will be responsible for presenting a pitch every week. You will be given 3 minutes to present. Everyone will also be responsible for watching and commenting/asking clarifying questions/providing positive suggestions on one pitch per week. AVTF - 1 PERIODS 2 & 3This week (through Friday 01/12/18) we will be covering a lot of the basics for the course as well as the opportunities for video skills outside of broadcast & movies. We will also begin to develop our self-advocacy, communication, problem solving skills as well as the critical time management skills. Your key will be to identify and understand: 1. Your learning style 2. Your learning strengths / weaknesses 3. Your time management strengths/weaknesses so you can plan for your success early in the semester. Outside of that boring - yet critical educational stuff, we will be looking at the basics of taking good photos/videos! AVTF - 3 PERIOD 4This semester will be comprised of using authentic (real life) video production opportunities to solidify basic video production skills as well as explore and learn new, higher level, techniques as we produce videos to be produced for the school, district, and outside companies. Our first videos will begin immediately and will be assigned by Friday, 01/05/18.
In addition to developing our skills and widening our network, we will also be focusing on passing the SkillsUSA End of Pathway Assessment.
