CONGRATS TO HARRISON SKILLSUSAHarrison SkillsUSA Chapter participated in the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership & Skills Conference for the first time last week. Harrison Chapter Co-President, Anna Mullins and member Becky Koon entered the Digital Cinematography contest and spent the week before the event planning, filming and presenting their short movie. When not presenting their project, they had a lot of fun checking out the displays, presentations, activities, and network with video/film presenters. Huge thanks to Mr. Ward and his Graphics Club for joining the Harrison SkillsUSA Chapter. Their membership and support was instrumental in our Chapter being recognized for the largest percentage increase in membership. EVERYONEOne more week! We can do this. HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HoyaVisionI want to share how pleased and proud I am of our broadcast teams! Thursday and Friday I was able to share the broadcasts with a number of teachers and professionals from around the state. While there is always ways to improve, they were impressed with how the shows went on - LIVE - without my being there. They were amazed at how resourceful you were when technical issues arose and how you adapted - on your own - during the broadcast to address them. THAT is what employers in any field are looking for. INDIVIDUAL SEGMENTS: Many of you have been curious about the purpose of the assignment - to produce (plan, film, & edit) a :60 - :90 second segment - by yourself. The key goals are: 1. The broadcast industry is quickly transitioning to a multi-platform journalist where reporters/anchors are expected to be able to film, edit and present the stories. Our standards for this course are based on emulating the industry practices. 2. In order to improve our video storytelling, we need to understand all aspects of the story we're telling. The questions/conversation had with subjects of the story and the video to support the story. 2a. It's important for the Talent to understand what shots to get, how to get them and how to cut them up, select and put them in a sequence to better tell the story. 2b. It's also important for the technical crew members to know the story equally as well as the talent. What are you trying to say with your segment? Who is best to tell the story, and it's NOT the reporter/videog. What questions can you ask to get the subject(s) to tell the story? We'll be working with the Talent on Monday through Wednesday on camera/edit basics and the technical crew Tuesday through Thursday on questioning/interviewing techniques. These segments, and your efforts in producing them will be graded as a test grade and be aired. Producers and Directors, in addition to producing segments of their own, will need to schedule everyone's segments into a show through the remainder of the semester. I loved the girls basketball segment in the HSPN 3/14/17 episode. As a whole the episode was pretty well organized. The one thing that I noticed was that during the coach ricard's segment, the audio was coming from the camera. Next time, I would recommend using a handheld mic.

I liked the harrison today from march 20th because the segments featured in the show were interesting, but the audio for the weather segment was really loud.

I really enjoyed the March 20th Harrison Today episode, especially the college corner segment, because it was a good heads up for people who haven't applied for testing yet. There wasn't anything in particular I would change, great show overall.

I watched HOYAVISION, FRIDAY 032417 SHOW. I liked how show covered varieties of aspects inside outside of harrison high school. Audio was nice and clear good enough to deliver the show. However, they had technical difficulties during the show, having a bad transition. What can we do to make sure it won't happen again?

Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate your kind comments. I'm glad you felt our audio was clear, as that has been something we've struggled with before. I totally agree about the technical difficulties during the transitions; I think a little more preparation and planning would easily prevent issues like that. Thank you!

I watched John Creek's JCNN from 3/28/17. I noticed the anchors strong voices as soon as they began the show. I would suggest rehearsing the script some more because they often cut each other off. I think a couple of read throughs would solve that issue. Would that be worth the benefit?

I watched the 3-20-17 Harrison Today episode and it was very informative with many announcements and college info. I liked the college corner and the updates for all of the scholarships offered. Overall the camera was very steady and audio was great but I would suggest a little more rehearsing of lines so the show can run a little smoother.

I watched the 03/24/17 Hoya Vision episode. I thought the car/tardy segment was really funny, original, and a clever way to introduce the show. The audio was good for all segments but the camera was kinda shaky at parts. I really liked the Judah segment and how it was something outside of school (the experience).

I watched the 3/24/17 HoyaVision. Good show although in the beginning, the camera could have been held and focused better at some parts. Good audio except for the wind and some echoing, but the audio was very clear capturing people's voices. The subjects were centered very well throughout. Great interviews as well.

What I really liked about the show was how they interview people from different clubs. I think that the one issue was when they were reading the news, they were talking kinda choppy. You could tell they were reading from something so maybe make it less obvious.

I watched the 03/20/17 episode of Harrison Today. I thought the FCA segment was really great. I noticed whenever the green screen was used, the subject distorted or something was creating a shadow on the screen. I suggest different placement of the subject to fix that.

I watched Kell's Unbelieveabeef. It was not a great show. The Frozen Cow segment was immature and the "Chicken Nugget" segment was over 4 minutes long. They should have cut out the excess talking and made it quicker. How about not doing to "Ghost" segment next time?

I watched Unbelieveabeef episode 11. The episode quality could be worked on, but the graphics are really nice. I feel as if some of the segments were long and could have been edited nicer and cut out some long pauses. How do you think that you could limit some of your extra space?

I watched the 3/29/17 episode of JCNN. I love the way they do announcements and include ISO's and animated graphics. Everything is so smooth and I liked the way that they included an interview from California. The only thing could make it better is by monitoring the audio levels. How about including more segments from around the school?

It appealed to people outside of your school as well. The transitions were a little rough in the live part. The Musical.ly segment was amazing. It was very well filmed and edited. I watched Unbelieveabeef episode 4. The intro featuring the March Madness highlights was entertaining to watch and I liked their desk setup. However, the segment about filling out the brackets seemed too long and the lighting was different in each shot. How about adding more shorter segments instead of one long segment?

I watched the March 24th episode of Hoya Vision and I enjoyed the majority of it. The prom queen and king segment was cute. But the one segment that I thought could have been better was the Sam Smith music corner segment. The technical part of it was fine but the interview lacked excitement and did not hold my attention enough to want to learn about the band or care about the concert.

I watched WE 032017 of Harrison Today. I liked the FCA segment. If you guys upped the bitrate we wouldn't have so much digital artifacting. Making a picture fit the screen makes it distort and look ugly. If you left the image the original size and added a blurred background, it would be great.
