DUE FRIDAY: 09/23/16
Quick question for everyone: Yesterday, the Emmys (broadcast and web based shows) were awarded. Under comments, tell me YOUR best show and why it's the best. Is it the story? The writing? Scenery? Camera work? Lighting? Actors/Actresses? Be specific about WHY whatever element you choose makes that show the best for you. EVERYONE :-) I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and didn't get too wet. I felt honored to give a motorcycle ride to a high school freshman from Birmingham, AL as part of the Birmingham Ride for Kids. She had lost her younger brother to brain cancer not too long ago, so this was a nice diversion. If you can find a way to share your hobby with someone in need, there's no better feeling. This is the final week before Fall break. Let's be sure to finish strong. HARRISON TODAY - HSPN - HOYAVISION This week HARRISON TODAY will continue to refine it's Monday shows with remote reporting for Clubs and Sports news. It's Blue Crew's week - HSPN will stream live on Tuesday with reports on Football, Softball, & Volleyball. HoyaVision will broadcast on Friday . The XA-10 Worksheets will be graded as final this week as well. AVTF-1 We will be covering Pre-Production this week. Storyboarding & Script writing. We'll be going over the required elements of a storyboard - there are 6: Time of Day, Location, Framing/Shot Composition, Actor/Camera Movement, Brief Description, and Numbering of Scenes. In addition to sketching out your plans for your video, scripts also help plan your video. This week we'll review the parts and formatting of a SCREENPLAY, what's typically used for commercials, TV shows, movies, etc. It has a lot of the same elements of a storyboard, without the pictures. The formatting, what's capitalized, what's centered, what's in parantheses are all part of a screenplay script. The culminating project for the pre-production unit will be a 00:15:00 commercial. The pre-production must be completed by this Friday and be done before you film the commercial. Pre-production Assignment: In addition to the planning, storyboarding and writing the screen play for your :15 second commercial, take a few minutes and watch this short piece on how Pixar storyboards their movies. Leave a comment about what was your biggest take-away from the video. PIXAR STORYBOARDING MINI-DOC (YouTube) To help you with the elements of a screen play, here is a quick guide listing the basic elements:

After watching a video of how Pixar write and draw a storyboard, the biggest take-away for me was that everyone participates in sharing idea when they write storyboard. I also liked how they put lots of thoughts into every little element in the movie.

After watching the short documentary I learned that a storyboard created by a group of people's ideas vs. a single mind turns out 10x more creative. Collaborating with other people to create one storyboard makes the final project that more exciting and interesting. Not all storyboards have to be perfect, but try to be as precise as you can.

My biggest take away after watching the Pixar story boarding video, would be the fact that at first there is one person that makes the story board but once it is shown to everyone else, it is a free for all on the ideas. Once the storyboarder has the ideas, he then goes back and has to redo the storyboard.

My favorite TV comedy is "The Big Bang Theory" because the actors and the writing are so much fun and hilarious to watch. It also appeals to me because I am very much a nerd, loving comics, books, movies, and video games of all genre except romance and horror. For drama, however, I can't really say. I really loved C.S.I., but now, I think I am leaning towards "Daredevil", "Gotham"(because they both involve two of my favorite superheros. Also, I am saying that after only watching the first season of "Daredevil" and a quarter of the first season of "Gotham"), or "The Blacklist", which I've only seen the first season on Netflix, along with "Gotham". I like "The Blacklist", because of its story and its characters. Also, James Spader is fantastic as Raymond Reddington.

I really like The Office, and I think that what makes it amazing is that it is set up like a documentary. The writers make the show naturally funny.

I believe that Poldark should win awards. The show is captivating in its scenery, music, and clothing designs. It depicted an accurate picture of the time and all of its troubles.

The Pixar storyboard processes have revising over and over again. So you must be really flexible.

After watching the Harrison Today segment from Monday I have come to the conclusion that overall the segment was fine. The only thing that stuck out to me was there was like a 5 second frame where the camera moved to the left and then back over to the right. I'm not sure if the camera was suppose to be still throughout the entire segment, but it just caught my attention. Something that did grab my attention was when they congratulated the Varsity Football team on their win against Allatoona because I was there and I throughly enjoyed watching our team achieve another victory.

After watching multiple Harrison Today segments, I love that most of the people speaking are very enthusiastic, which makes the shows far more enjoyable to watch. While the sports segments are great, with allowing you to hear some of the players point of view, I really wish as a freshmen I could see more freshman being asked questions. Specifically the freshman football team. They have also beaten Allatoona and to my knowledge are doing very well this season. Overall these shows are very engaging to watch and are made very well, keep up the work.

In the Pixar Storyboard, they talk about that it is a comic type script that is pinned to a wall and is discussed about how to make the story better, such as editing A Bug's Life.
