Welcome back everyone! I hope you found time to relax and recharge over the break. If you took some well composed shots, post and tag #FallBreak16. ATTENTION FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: The PSAT's will be administered on Wednesday, October 19th. With the recently re-vamped SAT's this past Spring, this will provide a good basis on where your strengths as well as areas you may be struggling with. Here's a link to a great preparation site that will help you prepare for the PSAT and SAT.... PSAT/NMSQT: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/official-student-guide-psat-nmsqt-2016.pdf The SkillsUSA chapter is hosting a LAND THAT JOB! series over the next several weeks. Monday, October 3rd's session will be on NETWORKING: Tips on making a good first impression with adults. It will be held in the Harrison Room (room 100), right across from the College & Career Center. See poster above for more info about this and the upcoming sessions. Please don't forget to submit your journal entry starting Thursday (so you have a chance to learn something) This week we're going to learn about professionally critiquing someone's work. We're going to start reviewing our HARRISON TODAY, HSPN, and HoyaVision shows on a weekly basis. It will be good for the crew of those shows to see what you think of their episode and good for you to learn how to professionally and honestly share how you feel about someone's work, be it a blog post, show, or anything. Here are the basic steps: 1. Acknowledge a positive aspect or segment about the show. Be specific. Example: On the 09/23/16 HARRISON TODAY episode, I like how you updated us on the latest game and match results for the Freshman and JV teams on Thursday. 2. Build on what they were trying to show by adding personal experience. Example: Varsity seems to get all the attention, it's nice that you take the time to recognize the Freshman & JV teams. I know some of my friends play on JV, and it really helps build their confidence. It would be nice if you would do the same for the other sports as well. 3. Concluded with a critical thinking or Socratic question to the individual or crew. Example: What do you think about doing an interview with some of the JV players as part of the segment? Each AVTF level and Broadcast Crews will be assigned a show to review using the A-B-C Method above. The reviews are to be posted in the comment section of this week and is due by end of day on Friday. HOYAVISION/HARRISON TODAY/HSPN: Congrats to Jennifer Tull who visited Chattahoochee Tech to watch the taping of Play To Win, football show this past Thursday. She was able to sit in on the production meeting, watch the show being recorded and was even given a segment on air! Nicely done Jennifer! HARRISON TODAY: Sydney Wease assumes the Producer role and Kevin Cerny assumes the Director role for the month of October. Please be sure to insert your Monday segment onto the Harrison Spreadsheet. HSPN: Please be sure to follow up on all the great news on our sports teams from over the break. If possible, maybe we can get an interview with one of the Sports Hall of Fame inductees. Please make sure your segments for each week are on the run down for the month of October. HoyaVision: Green Crew will be broadcasting this week. Both crews will need to complete the rundown for the month of October times will be required for this week's and next week's shows. AVTF-1 We'll be wrapping up our Pre-planning unit this week. Using the storyboard and screenplay you produced the week before Fall break, you will be recording and editing your :15 second commercial. We'll also have a brief quiz on pre-production on Friday. Here's a link to a video regarding the basic parts to a screenplay. Please take a few minutes to watch it and refresh your memory and then leave a comment on what you learned or reinforced about screenplays from the video: HOW TO FORMAT A SCREENPLAY AVTF-2
We will be covering a few different units starting this week. First we'll be learning more about the After Effects CC program and will create a couple of projects to reinforce the concepts of keyframes and motion. At the same time, we will be breaking into teams of 4 - 5 and will begin our coverage of the issues that will be on the ballot in November (not the candidates - the issues.). You'll receive more specific information on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

In the October 3,2016 episode of Harrison Today, the show had great lighting in the political segment with red and blue both in the background. I also was glad not to have a bias segment for or against one candidate, it is very annoying to hear bias accounts over and over again like in some news channels. What do you think about making a chart of differences and similarities of both candidates and showing it in a segment?

In the October 3, 2016 episode of Harrison Today, I liked the political segment that James and Mia did. They did a very good job at spending equal time on both candidate's positions on different issues. I like the idea of informing students about what is going on in the very important election coming up. What do you think about asking students what they think about the candidates and other things like that?

In October 3, of Harrison Today, I enjoyed how the audio was clear and everyone one was in the spot they were supposed to be in. They also talked more about Hillary than Donald and I believe that they should get an even segment. Overall I liked it but one thing I think you guys can do is when you are talking about the different topics (Football games, Sports, Etc). Put pictures on the screen to catch peoples attention.

The Pixar video really opened my eyes after watching it because I never realized how much time and effort it takes to make the storyboard for a movie. I never knew how hard it would be to be a storyboard creator. I also thought it was cool how they set things up and how they work.

I learned quite a few things from the screenplay video. One thing I learned was that when you are typing the characters name you put it in all caps and in the center of the line. If the character is on screen and talking you type (O.S) but if your character is off screen and just doing a voice over you write (V.O) next to the name of the character.

After watching the October 3rd Hoya Today segment I came to the conclusion that overall it was fine. However, in the segment there was like a 3 second time frame where the camera channeled to the left and then back to the right, returning to its original spot. Although, when they talked about the Varsity Harrison football game's victory I throughly enjoyed that because I was there and was able to witness and know first hand what they were sharing with their audience watching. Is the camera supposed to be still throughout the entire segment or was that movement on purpose?

Blue Crew 9/23/16 I loved how in the band segment you guys had the natural sounds of the band playing int background while you were interviewing her. The only thing i think y'all can make better is add a little bit more conversation at desk. And my suggestions are for the community segments go place more people would like

In the October 3, 2016 episode of Harrison Today, the section with James Dill and Mia Nelson was really intriguing because it let me know what was going on with politics. They did a very good job at spending equal time on both candidate's positions on different issues. They did a good job of not being biased on their opinions on the person who should become elected for president. Maybe next time, they should interview students to see their opinions on who they want to win the the election in November!

For the hoyavision on October 3rd, I enjoyed how they give you the dates on when things are so you know when your club meetings are. It would be helpful if you explained what goes on during the club meetings so people would know what to expect. Could you interview club leaders so we know what to expect?

For Hoyavision on October 3, 2016 I thought it was very nice. The announcement of club meeting took too long in my opinion. The BC HoyaVision posted on 9/23/16 was very good. I liked the creative segments and commentary between each segment. I also liked the creative intro with the elevator at the beginning. One thing I would change would be the comments made by the interviewer. They don't seem engaged in what the person being interviewed is saying and disinterested in what they are talking about. What if each interviewer tried to give positive feedback to what the person being interviewed is saying?

BC Hoyavision 9/23/16 was very entertaining and funny. There were several topics about the community and many clips were creative such as the elevator intro. I like how segments elaborated on each topic with B-roll and meaningful questions because each gave a lot of information for students. However, some interviews seemed rushed. I watched the October 4th HSPN episode and there are a few things to comment on. They did a really good job giving all of the sports updates. I personally liked how they talked about all of the sports instead of focusing on just one. I have a friends on both JV and Varsity teams so it was nice to hear updates on both teams as well as freshman. One thing that they should have done differently was put the mics farther from their neck so it was less muffled. What if next time they have different segments with the different talent and sports instead of all on one??

What I got from the Screenplay video is that he described that never try to make one of the characters have a similar name to not confuse the director. Another thing he explained is that you must be very descriptive in parentheticals and during the action. Last, capitalization is needed in names or important action.
